See the Russian you know, on every page you read

The extension colours the Russian words on any web page by how well you know them, the way Palimpsest's own reader does. Click a word for a definition, review a due flashcard where the word appears, and let what you read count towards what you know.

A Russian article with words coloured by how well you know them, and the word popup open on one of them

On any Russian page

  • Words are coloured by how well you know them: the darker the colour, the newer the word. Words you know stay plain.
  • Click a word for a definition in Russian, written with words you already know, plus its English meanings and inflections. Set your own score, reject a word, or flag it for a future flashcard deck.
  • Save any Russian page to your Palimpsest library with one click.
A YouTube video with a captions panel beside it, the Russian captions coloured and one word looked up

On YouTube

  • A captions panel beside the video shows the Russian captions, coloured and clickable, and follows the video. It pauses while you look a word up.
  • The lines you actually heard count towards your scores. Save the video, captions and all, to study it in the app.
A due flashcard opened on the page where its word appears

Your reading counts

  • Flashcards that are due are marked where the word appears. Click, answer, and the review counts, as in the app.
  • Words you read or hear without looking them up count towards your scores, as reading in the app does. That is how Palimpsest learns what you know from what you do. You can switch this off in Settings.

Private by design

The extension reads pages on your computer and stops at any page that is not in Russian. It never sends a page's address or text unless you press Save. It sends Russian words, not pages, in batches mixed across pages. No analytics, no advertising.
